Over the last few months there has been a lot of discussion on the future of the office and how the working week is going to look moving forward.
In light of our recent poll where we asked business staff what their preferences would be in regards to a work life balance, the results were pretty clear!
Over the last few months we have witnessed major organisations embracing working from home. Twitter, Google and Facebook have all announced that they will be allowing employees to continue to work from home until July 2021.
Moving forward it may be a given that allowing 300+ employees into an office building is no-longer the way to go, so what is it exactly that employees and employers want moving forward?
We have been carrying out our own poll across social media that has allowed people to have their say on what working life they would like to see in the future. The majority vote has been for blended work which would consist of working from home and working in the office, this received 54% majority vote. This definitely got my vote!
The second highest option at 24% was flexible working with an agreed amount of working hours throughout the week you should work.
The third option with an 11% preference was having an early start – early finish or a later start and later finish, allowing the variety and option depending on how you feel on that given day.
The least favoured option was your normal 9-5 working week. So what does that tell us for the future? Could we be seeing the end of the normal 9-5 and working in the office 5 days a week.. I think it’s clear to many of us that remote working is here to stay long after the pandemic and could spark a new work life balance for employees and employers.
In my opinion I would prefer the option of blended work. I’m a great believer that too much of any one thing isn’t good and you need to strike a balance. It is vital to remain positive and happy in a workplace but also productive and creating the balance between the office and your home would definitely ensure these factors are met.
There is still time to vote on our poll, it runs out in four days, so if you want your say on how you’d like your working week to look in the future then you can do so here.
