Recruitment has definitely felt the impact from the current climate and whilst there still could be tough times ahead given that recruitment figures have taken a dip, there is still a level of optimism that it could level out and hopefully start to rise again.
Having researched recent statistics, they have definitely highlighted both the positive and negative impact of the current situation. Covid-19 has tested the resilience of recruiters across the country but the industry has most definitely stepped up and demonstrated the role it plays in trying times.
– Scottish hiring activity continued to contract substantially in July, although the labour market downturn is softening slightly compared to previous months of this year, according to the latest RBS Labour Market Report.
– The report’s seasonally adjusted Permanent Placements Index shows permanent placements are still showing as negative compared to previous years.
– However, the actual drop in appointments was the lowest it’s been since before the country entered lock down in March, with the loosening of coronavirus restrictions leading to many businesses reopening and resuming hiring, albeit to lower levels than pre-pandemic.
– Scottish recruiters saw back-to-back increases in supply of permanent staff in July, whilst temporary staff supply rates saw their quickest rate of expansion for over 11 years.
There is very challenging conditions within the Scottish Labour Market at present, however with undoubtedly some further challenging times ahead the fact will always remain that without good people a business can never achieve its true goals and ambitions.
